Chandragupta Maurya and Chanakya are two of the most inspiring figures of history. Together, they created the Mauryan Empire, with its capital city at Pataliputra. At its zenith, the Mauryan Empire reigned from modern day Afghanistan in the West to the Bay of Bengal in the East, and from the Himalayas in the North to almost the tip of Southern India.

Their story inspires us to this day. They were masters of taking advantage of short term opportunities to push home their advantage; whilst at the same time being true long-term visionaries that set up a rules based, prosperous and unified empire; the first of its kind in India. They combined long-term vision with ruthless on the ground execution.

In our own small way, we pay tribute to them, and learn from them. Having strong systems and ethics. Taking advantage of short term “special situations” whilst relentlessly looking for and backing visionary entrepreneurs that are building for the future with world class execution. We are in it for the long haul, and will always have that North Star when making every portfolio decision.

Fun fact: Our logo depicts a symbol that was stamped in all coins minted by the Mauryan Empire (and in fact in other ancient Indian kingdoms too).
